So once the dust cleared I managed to get this shoot finished without any more embarrassing moments, and below are a few teasers from Candice and Phil’s engagement shoot in Waterloo Park.

I had the privilege of shooting this engagement session in the one place that I love going to visit from time to time.  Websters Falls just outside of Hamilton.  It is one of those places that I could go to every week and still find new and interesting areas to photograph in.  It is just a wonderful park.

Melissa and Jason also thought it was an amazing spot and they decided to come all the way in from Stratford to go and shoot this session there.  I am very happy they did.

They are a wonderful couple with great chemistry.  Melissa was a bit nervous since she has never done a photo shoot before but Jason helped her out and they worked together like a team.  After all they will be spending the rest of their lives together so working collaboratively is a must.  We had some fun once the initial nerves wore off.

The one trick to this place is that it is quite popular with people from all over, so trying to do a full shoot is kind of like having a built in audience.  But in the end it all comes together and we managed to get a good mix of shots from a variety of spots the park has to offer.  I am looking forward to shooting both of them again in September, locations for this will be outlined in blue ink on the highway.  At least that is what my map says.  LOL.

I must say I am having some of the best luck this season with the weather.  The morning of this shoot a pretty nasty thunderstorm ran through and I was worried about not being able to make it.  But we waited it out and by shoot time everything came together for us to do the shoot.

I am looking forward to the wedding in September, I have a feeling it is going to be fun, fun and more fun.  Oh did I mention it is going to be fun ?

This backdrop for this engagement session was the Mill Race Park in Cambridge.   I particularly like the variety of sites within that make for beautiful pictures.   The architecture and water make transport the couple to another time and place.  With the creativity of Sarah and Dan, their parents, the family dog and myself, we created a delightful mix of both candid and posed moments to remember.  What stood out for me on this engagement (and the shoots done in the recent past with Sarah’s kin), was the involvement of family members in ensuring the couple put their best foot forward; lunching, storytelling, joking, lending a helping hand.    I have no doubt this relationship will be nurtured and supported at all stages of their journey together.

Come September, we will all be reunited on a farm in Ripley, Ontario.    A barn, 4 Wheelers and Cowboy Boots…one never knows where the camera will take me.  I can’t wait for the action!

Although it means a quick turn around between engagement session and wedding,  I am excited to be a part of their celebration of love on July 2. The ideas they have shared about where to focus my lens and my photo-journalistic approach to capturing the essence of people will surely create images that tell a unique story of this special time in their lives.

Aside from the amazing waterfall there is a fair size park with stone bridges, walking trails with wooden fences, green spaces, a river, and some interesting trees, and iron gates.

I learned a valuable lesson, do not leave home without the proper info.  So I have to say thank you to Kerry and Shawn for being very understanding and accommodating, and I do know where you live now for sure.

So here are some engagement teasers from today.   I will be posting the entire shoot once I have them all finished so stay tuned.

I love when a couple just comes out and has fun, not every session has to be so formal that it looses the essence of who the people are.  That is what I believe and I try very hard to capture.  The Essence of You !

This was shot in Websters Falls just outside of Hamilton Ontario.  It is a favorite location of mine because of the wide variety it provides, the size, and the fact that there is a big honkin’ waterfall there.  Short of Niagara Falls this is a fantastic spot to shoot.

Having fun and choosing a less than usual location is part of the fun in this job, so when planning your wedding give the engagement session a thought beyond the ordinary.

From time to time I will post a blast from the past shoot image or slideshow or both.  I love looking back at past shoots, they allow me to look back at where I was, what I was shooting, and of course the fun I was having getting to know the couple and creating images for them.

Engagement photography is a great way for me to get to know couples, it also allows them to get to know me.  After all we are going to be spending some time together and this type of session allows for that to happen.  All without all the added pressure of a wedding day.
